Check out the Deck

As we all know, Modern is full of wild decks. Very often, however, people just play what they know and like best. In this case, the old meets the new. Let’s break down what’s happening in this Boomer Jund + Busted new cards deck.

Let’s begin with the obvious nowadays – it’s a Lurrus deck. Any deck that wants to go from Bad to Good seems to have to adopt Lurrus. But no wonder – it’s a card advantage engine which you don’t have to draw, so it’s never dead in your hand in fast match-ups. In longer games it’s a must answer threat which comes down when you decide it’s time and is a free card. In previous Jund shells, the deck relied on Liliana of the Veil and Bloodbraid Elf so now we have to make the deck meet the restriction and retain (or preferably increase) its power.

What better way to try to keep Lurrus’s restriction than to add two of the best cards in the format – Dragon’s Rage Channeler and Ragavan, Nimble Pilferer. Add some Tarmogoyfs into the mix and you’ve got yourself a very solid, aggressive, and low-to-the-ground creature base. Add a bunch of removal spells and you’ve got yourself a new, revamped aggressively-slanted Jund deck.

That’s not all though. Just turning Jund into Lurrus Jund with aggressive bodies wouldn’t be spicy enough, would it. What about a land which self-sacrifices, is an enchantment, and has artifact interactions? Sounds wild in a Jund deck but here we are – Urza’s Saga. This deck plays this infamous land alongside with 4 Mishra’s Bauble and some one-ofs including Expedition Map or Pithing Needle. The saga constructs are just a nice icing on top. Bear in mind, you can recur Sagas with Wrenn and Six! That’s value.

All in all, the deck is as fresh of a take on Jund as it gets. It went 7-0 in the Modern Challenge, winning the whole thing. If you are a Jund aficionado – give it a go!
